Kings Award

Highland & Islands Blood Bikes are immensely proud and honoured to have been awarded the King’s Award for Voluntary Service — the highest recognition given to volunteer-led organisations across the UK.
Often described as the MBE for volunteer groups, this prestigious award recognises the exceptional contribution of our volunteers who give their time, skills, and dedication to support patients and NHS services across the Highlands and Islands.
For our charity, this award is not about a trophy or a title — it is recognition of thousands of hours spent riding in all weathers, fundraising in communities, maintaining bikes, coordinating operations, and being on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, so that vital medical items reach where they are needed most.
What This Award Means to Us
Receiving the King’s Award for Voluntary Service is a powerful acknowledgement of:
- The commitment and professionalism of our volunteer riders, fundraisers, controllers, trustees, and support teams
- The trust placed in us by NHS partners and local communities
- The real, life-saving impact of our work behind the scenes
It also reinforces the importance of volunteer services in some of the most remote and challenging areas of the UK, where every journey matters and every minute can make a difference.
A Shared Achievement
This honour belongs to every volunteer — past and present — and to the communities, supporters, and partners who believe in what we do and stand beside us. Without you, our service simply would not exist.
We accept this award with pride, humility, and renewed determination to continue delivering a safe, professional, and compassionate service for years to come.
