Join the HAIBB team as a Volunteer

Rider / Driver

Our volunteer riders and drivers transport blood samples, patient medications other urgent consignments of behalf of the NHS laboratories, hospitals, pharmacies, and GP practices. The work is mostly within Highland region but can also include transfers our of the region to Elgin, Aberdeen, Dundee, Glasgow, Edinburgh or Perth.
We have an on-line booking system enabling you to book the days or shifts that you are volunteering for in advance. Each volunteer is expected to complete a shift every 4-6 weeks. During each shift the control desk will allocate the jobs on the days and provide support and communication with you.
Drivers and riders will hold a full UK license, and in addition riders must hold an advanced qualification from either with IAM Roadsmart , R0SPA or Police rider qualification.
All volunteers will also be expected to periodically support Highland & Islands Blood Bikes at fundraising events too. You can of course hold other roles too within HAIBB.

Fundraiser

If you join us a volunteer fundraiser, you will be helping us raise the necessary monies to keep our free transport service to the NHS running. This includes helping to organise and manage collections at local community events, gala days, supermarkets etc., basically connecting with the public anywhere where there is a gathering.
You will be part of a team at each event and interacting with the public, raising awareness of the work we do for the NHS Highland region. So, a confident personality and outgoing manner is a real asset.
Each volunteer will be expected to complete a shift at least once every 4-6 week. You can of course hold other roles too within HAIBB.

Controller

By joining us as volunteer Duty Controller you will be involved in the scheduling and monitoring the progress of our free transport service to the NHS in the Highland region.
The role involves liaising with and booking jobs from the NHS by phone, and allocating jobs to our riders and drivers. We use on-line tools to manage and track our work, so a familiarity with software (eg excel/word) and messaging services (eg WhatsApp) particularly beneficial. However, full training will of course be given.
We operate 7 days/week, and each day is broken down into 3 controller shifts. Each controller is expected to complete at least one operational shift every 4-6 weeks.
All volunteers will also be expected to periodically support Highland & Islands Blood Bikes at fundraising events too. You can of course hold other roles too within HAIBB.
